To say it was nothing but nerves would be the least of her worries. The emotions currently clawing at her heart and knotting up her stomach were anything but a simple case of nervousness. If that were the case, the girl sitting in the waiting room of Fountain Spa and thumbing through last month's issue of Vogue would not have seemed so fidigity and distressed. Her lips were tugged into a light frown as her foot tapped impatiently against the hard floor. Her legs were crossed one over the other as she sat in the cushioned, metal framed chair, one hand holding the magazine in place as it rested on her lap and the other entangling itself in her glossy brown hair. Kitty Monclaire was not handling her stress well.
The last few weeks had been rather hectic for the teen, filled with last minute shopping trips, tearful good byes, and one rather long car trip. As much as she hated to admit it, Kitty was a rather dependant person. She always had someone to catch her when she fell, wether it be one of her siblings or her circle of closet friends. Now, however, she had none of that. She was completely and utterly alone in a rather unfamilar state, armed with nothing but her camera, a few credit cards, and a key to a dorm room currently occupied by only herself. Starting college was scary, especially without a shoulder to lean on.
To make matters worse, Kitty had had to beg her father to let her attend Royal Academy. The path she'd chosen was very different from the one he'd wanted her on, and now she was beginning to second guess herself. She hadn't really met anyone at the school yet, and of her friends back home she was pretty sure the closet any of them were was at least half an hour away. That meant no familar faces without having to go through the trouble of arranging visits and what not.
To try and calm herself down, the girl had arranged herself a spa day in hopes of easing her troubled mind. Unfortunately, it was much less fun when she was by herself. Normally she was always accompanied by one or both of her sisters whenever a spa day was designated. Now, Kitty was in New York for college while Tabitha was at graduate school in Boston and Alyssa was finishing high school back in Providence. The waiting area was fairly empty as well, with only an older woman, a bored looking man, and a young mother with her now five year old daughter (the girl was wearing a rather large birthday pin) occupying space besides herself and the recptionist.
Not much of a conversationalist, she saw no reason to attempt to make small talk with any of the other customers while she waited. The girl and her mother were chatting happily between themselves, and while the old lady seemed nice enough Kitty was not in the mood for longwinded stories of the past and pictures of grandchildren she definately wouldn't know. As for the man, he feigned being interrested in the day's paper well enough to let others know he didn't want to talk with anyone. With the recptionist busy schedualing appointments by phone, that left the girl with the only option of sitting quietly by herself, flipping though the worn pages of an old magazine. With such a small distraction from her building anxieties, it was no wonder she was having such trouble concealing her emotions.
